New York City is a magnificent and spectacular city, but every so often you may need a refuge from the concrete jungle. You will find a range of activities you can get into such as kayaking, hiking and fishing at most camping grounds in NY. An hour drive from New York City is the Long Island region, where you will come across 32 state parks known for their breathtaking beaches, great fishing and golfing. Campers can enjoy many of the finest parks and recreational facilities in the nation. Jones Beach State Park provides miles of incredible sandy beaches.
A short drive north of NYC is the Catskills region with flourishing cascading rivers, serene lakes, sweeping meadows and miles of trails to explore. Another two hour drive north of the Catskills is the Adirondack Park. This enormous park is about 6 million acres with stunning views and long, serene waterways. Nearly all of the major highways that go through the park’s impressive landscape have been officially chosen as Scenic Byways.
A few hours drive north west of New York City is the Finger Lakes region, with plenty lakes, rivers and waterfalls. It is also one of the best wine growing areas in the world.
You can pitch your tent at one of New York state camping parks and enjoy the majestic rivers and lakes, surrounded by stunning scenery and incredible vistas of canyons. You can reserve your camp site and camp at New York state camping grounds from 1 day to 9 months in ahead of time or you can make a spontaneous visit, provided that space is available. A few of the campsites are booked weeks in advance, so it is recommended that you make a reservation as early as possible. New York state camping parks have a base reservation fee and a few of the campsites may charge additional fees for amenities.
New York state camping sites are exceptionally magnificent with their epic landscape, rugged and breathtaking terrain and stunning vistas. Whether you’re camping at Lake George in the Adirondacks or Finger Lakes, camping in New York is just a few hours away from hustle and bustle of New York City.
