Fine Wool

Fine Wool
How do I polish Marble that has sun & rain damage?

The marble has been sitting in the sun and rain all summer. It is now dull, but still smooth to the touch. Various methods have not worked. Tried the marble cleaner and polish chemicals, they did nothing. Then I tried various grains of sandpaper on a power sander followed by fine steal wool and soap, did nothing as well.

The marble is smooth to touch, I just want it to have that glossy shinny finish again. What else can I do? How about a clear coat for that glossy finish?
Didn’t I just say I used cleaners and polish? I need a method to get the glossy finish.

aluminum oxide crystals or a marble polish with it ( may also contain Oxalic acid )
but you did not mention what grits you went with sand paper
as you would start in with 400 wet minimum and work your way up to 2000 wet with a flat hard phenolic 4″ to 5″ pad mounted a VRPM rotary disc sander ( like a Metabo ), not an orbital sander
this will give the stone a semi shine
the crystals when mixed and applied with a hard felt pad by machine will raised the crystalline structure all so slightly and giver you that high polish you desire
you did not mention what type of marble you had

Art of Feltmaking: Basic Techniques for Making Jewelry, Miniatures, Dolls, Buttons, Wearables, Puppets, Masks and Fine Art Pieces

Art of Feltmaking: Basic Techniques for Making Jewelry, Miniatures, Dolls, Buttons, Wearables, Puppets, Masks and Fine Art Pieces

$7.99

When heat, moisture, and pressure are applied to wool, its fibers bond together to create felt. This elemental phenomenon provides the basis for the craft of feltmaking, whose appealing simplicity is also reflected in its material requirements: Besides wool, water, and soap, you need a surface on which to agitate or “full” the wool, a sharp pair of scissors, and, if the project requires it, a pattern. The basic techniques have many applications, and are so easy that even a young child can master them.Using just four basic techniques, The Art of Feltmaking shows how to create a variety of felt projects. The book begins with an overview of the history of the craft, which is followed by a detailed survey of materials and tools. Each feltmaking technique—making felt ropes, felt beads, flat felt, and seamless felt—is then demonstrated with step-by-step photographs and detailed instructions. By combining and varying these four methods, you can make these and many other projects:• Jewelry: Necklaces, bracelets, earrings, pins, barrettes, and buttons• Wearables. Slippers, mittens, hats, and doll apparel• Toys and Figures. Felt balls, simple rope-and-bead figures, poseable dolls, finger puppets, hand puppets, and stuffed toys.• Vessels. Pouches, purses, and boxes.• Masks. Eye masks, large masks, and masks with three-dimensional features. With The Art of Feltmaking as your guide, there are no limits to what you—and your kids—can create with felt.“When heat, moisture, and pressure are applied to wool, its fibers bond together to create felt.’ I never knew that until I read this intriguing book by Anne Einset Vickrey, author and workshop instructor. This book provides a comprehensive introduction to the craft.”—Belle Aroire magazine, Spring 2001

Art of Knitting: Inspirational Stitches, Textures, and Surfaces

Art of Knitting: Inspirational Stitches, Textures, and Surfaces

$25

Francoise Tellier-Loumagne has taught textile and knit design in France for more than thirty years. Drawing on her experience as teacher and practitioner, she has assembled a creative and inventive overview of stitches and fabrics, both hand-knitted and machine-made, presenting hundreds of sumptuous ways of working with yarn, from silk thread to Shetland wool. Other books propose patterns to copy; this book uses basic patterns as points of departure, opening up endless possibilities for sophisticated knitting designs. The book is organized by fabric types: simple knits, jacquards, fine jersey knits, interlock, open-work, and many others. It covers hand knitting, domestic machine knitting, and industrial knitting, explaining the relevant techniques and notation for each. The author encourages the reader to be innovative and to experiment with the various techniques, drawing inspiration from the natural world and one’s personal surroundings: pebbles on the sand, autumn leaves, snow sparkling in the sun, weeds and grasses bending in the wind. Every type of stitch that she describes is accompanied by enlarged photos of the textiles, detailed diagrams, and written instructions. The yarns used here are highly textural and attractive, which further encourages experimentation with yarn combinations and knitting techniques. The book will appeal to domestic knitters, professional knit designers, textile designers, and students, and will be a source of inspiration to anyone working with or interested in knitted textiles.
